Civic Lunch

On 19 June the Master hosted our annual Civic & Charities Lunch at Girdlers’ Hall.

The lunch was attended by about 100 members and guests who enjoyed the fabulous surroundings of Girdlers’ Hall, with a reception in the garden in blazing sunshine followed by lunch in a wonderful air conditioned hall featuring the magnificent Girdlers’ Carpet. …read more

City Walk

On 13 June the Master and 14 members and guests set off on our annual City Walk.

Our Blue Badge guide took us along the Embankment and showed us all the relevant structures related to the history of the City of London from pre-Roman to present times.  In view of us being a Livery Company, it was fascinating to learn of the ancient Guilds which relied on the river to ply their trades.  Many of the old wharfs are still there in different guises and the road names reflect what part of the river belonged to which trade.  She pointed out the old “red light district” across the river which was next to the old London Bridge near to what is now Southwark Cathedral. Across the water we were also able to see the replica of the Sir Francis Drake’s ship, the Golden Hind, the first ship to circumnavigate the world.  …read more

Ironbridge Weekend

On 10 & 11 June the Master attended the Annual Livery visit to Ironbridge

Livery Companies have been coming to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums for over three decades. The tradition was started by the late Sir Peter Gadsden who was Lord Mayor of London 1979-1980. Having grown up in Shropshire, Sir Peter undertook a visit to the county as part of his Mayoral year which included a visit to the Museum where he became fascinated by the story of Ironbridge as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. …read more

Buckingham Palace Garden Party

On 1 June the Master attended a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The party was one of a few organised at the Palace  and over the course of each year at which The Queen welcomes over 30,000 guests. At each Garden Party, around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed! …read more
