Tax Advisers Remember Passchendaele

The Master represented the Company at a City of London event to commemorate the Battle of Passchendaele (Third Battle of Ypres), at which all 110 London Livery Companies laid a cross in the grounds of St Paul's Cathedral, watched by the Lord Mayor. Each cross was labelled with the name of Livery Company planting it, and you can see ours in the attached photograph. The capture of Passchendaele by British and Canadian forces took place precisely 100 years ago from the date of the commemoration, namely 6th November 1917. …read more

Women's Tax Resistance League 1909 - 1918

The Centenary of the 1918  Representation of the People Act is fast approaching, when millions of women were granted the vote for the first time and the City will be commemorating this in June.  This development did not come from nowhere, and on 24th October the WCTA's History of Tax group was delighted to host Helen Thornley, an ATT Technical Officer, who delivered a fascinating talk on the League's struggle to secure votes for women under their slogan "No Vote, No Tax ". Election of new Lord Mayor
