Vintners and Song

The Master and Clerk were recent guests of the Worshipful Company of Vintners at their junior Livery Dinner. The Vintners are one of two Livery Companies still involved with Swan Upping, and although no actual swan was served, we did consume butter and chocolates in the shape of swans. London Metropolitan Archives

An intrepid group of Tax Advisers and their guests recently visited the London Metropolitan Archives in Clerkenwell.

The London Metropolitan Archives is run by the City of London Corporation and is home to an amazing range of documents, images, maps, films and books about London, and the guided tour, specially organised for our Company members included time with one of the conservators, who had recently worked on Charters from the Worshipful Company of Tallow Chandlers (seen in the photograph here). Some Livery Companies store their records and archives at the London Metropolitan Archives building, where they can be professionally conserved. …read more

Treloar's School

The Master and Consort joined over 50 other Livery Companies on the Lord Mayor's visit to Treloar's School in Hampshire.  The school was set up in 1907  by a former Lord Mayor of the City of London, Sir William Purdie Treloar, and has been actively supported by the City and the Livery since. It caters for severely disabled children and the work we saw being carried out with the children was very inspiring. The visit ended with a music concert given by the children. …read more

Livery promotes philanthropy

The Master and Clerk attended three events this week as guests of the Actuaries, the Insurers and the Basketmakers.

The Basketmakers support and promote the UK's basket making trade and each principal guest at their dinner was presented with a basket handmade from English Willow by one of the Company's Yeomen. All the Yeomen members are currently engaged in the craft of basket making. …read more
