2018 City Walk Announced

This year's City  Walk has a Sherlock Holmes theme and will take place on 6 June.

Sherlock Holmes was created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, and is possibly the most famous of all fictional detectives. Many of the stories featuring him were set in London, and London is synonymous with Sherlock Holmes. …read more

Guest of the Insurers

The Master and Clerk attended a White Tie Dinner hosted by the Worshipful Company of Insurers at the Mansion House. The Lord Mayor was the guest speaker, and he was attended by both his Sheriffs, one of whom, Sheriff Neil Redcliffe JP will be the guest speaker at our own Civic and Charities' Luncheon. The Lord Mayor spoke about his Business of Trust agenda, and the Tax Advisers will be hosting an event in support of this mayoral theme on the evening of our Civic and Charities' Lunch, 19th June. …read more

Common Hall for the Election of Sheriffs  25 June

All Liverymen are invited to attend this extremely popular and traditional Livery event, and to exercise their right as a Liveryman to vote in the election (Common Hall is a term used to describe a gathering of Liverymen, and often associated with an election). The Election of two Sheriffs and other officers including Ale Connors and Bridge Trustees in Common Hall occurs each Midsummer Day. It is a considerable spectacle, and is an interesting and historic ceremony.  This year the election is contested with 4 candidates standing. The Master and the Tax Advisers' FSG Representative, Past Master Michael Godbee, attended a supper at the guildhall members' dining room for all 13 FSG Companies. United Guilds' Service & Lord Mayor's Banquet

At a meeting of the Masters and Prime Wardens of the Great Twelve Companies, held at Goldsmiths’ Hall, on 1st February 1943, it was decided to hold a service in St Paul’s Cathedral for the Livery Companies and Guilds of the City of London. The idea behind the service was to help lift the spirits of the City following the Blitz during the Second World War. The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of London, Sir Samuel Joseph, attended along with the Sheriffs and Court Aldermen and the Right Reverend The Lord Bishop of London , Dr G. F. Fisher, preached the sermon. As far as records show, this was the first occasion on which all the Livery Companies and Guilds of the City combined to hold a religious service. Since then, it has become an annual event and remains one of the few occasions in the calendar at which the Livery Companies and Guilds of the City can gather together as a whole. …read more
