WCTA Carol Service and Supper

On 19th December the Tax Advisers hosted  the Worshipful Company of  Woolmen, the Worshipful Company of Founders, the Worshipful Company of Builders' Merchants and the Company of Public Relations Practitioners at a Christmas Supper at Haberdashers' Hall following a Service of 9 lessons and Carols at St Bartholomew the Great, where the lessons are traditionally read by Livery Masters, including the Master Tax Adviser. …read more

Big Curry Lunch Launch

The Master and Clerk attended the launch of the 2018 Big Curry Lunch, a charity event supported by the Lord Mayor with all  profits usually going to The Army Benevolent Fund, the Soldiers' Charity. For 2018 the beneficiary list has been extended to the Navy and Air Force as well, widening the net of service personnel that can be assisted. Concert at Mercers' Hall

On St Andrew's Day, the Master and Consort were invited to a Concert and Supper at Mercers' Hall attended by over 70 Livery Companies. The Mercers are number 1 in the order of precedence of the Livery Companies and had booked Crispian Steele-Perkins and Leslie Pearson to perform a variety of pieces for the trumpet and piano. …read more

Trinity House Tour and Afternoon Tea

On 17th November, the Tax Advisers visited Trinity House.  The House is situated near the Tower of London. Trinity House is a very old institution, incorporated by Henry VIII in  1514. It is still responsible for the safety of shipping in British and Irish waters today, and is well known for its association with light houses. Members will be interested to note that it is partly funded by Light Dues. The rates of this tax are set annually by the respective shipping ministers of the UK and Ireland.
Trinity House has a statutory duty to collect General Light Dues from vessels calling at UK and Irish ports. Light Dues collected are paid into the General Light House Fund under the stewardship of the Department for Transport. The fund finances the work of Trinity House, the Northern Lighthouse Board (Scotland and the Isle of Man) and the Commissioners of Irish Lights (Ireland). …read more
