Women's Tax Resistance League 1909 - 1918

The Centenary of the 1918  Representation of the People Act is fast approaching, when millions of women were granted the vote for the first time and the City will be commemorating this in June.  This development did not come from nowhere, and on 24th October the WCTA's History of Tax group was delighted to host Helen Thornley, an ATT Technical Officer, who delivered a fascinating talk on the League's struggle to secure votes for women under their slogan "No Vote, No Tax ". Election of new Lord Mayor

On 29th September, Michaelmas Day, the Master attended the Common Hall at Guildhall to elect the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, processing with other Livery Masters including Princess Anne. Charles Bowman, a PwC partner was elected. …read more

FSG Lecture

On Wednesday 20 September, the Master was accompanied by Past Master Godbee to the inaugural Financial Services Group lecture.

The lecturer entitled London Forever ! – Reality or Rhetoric? was given by Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli. He drew on decades of research into the mapping, modelling and economics of cities, along with empirical data to challenge some of the conventional assumptions about how cities form and grow.
