Weekend Walk - November 2018

Members of the Company and their families, ten in all, and even a dog, enjoyed a pleasant walk from Wimbledon Park, across Wimbledon Common, and then Richmond Park, before reaching Richmond itself, and heading off home by train, tube, and bus, on Sunday, 25 November.

The weather was at least dry, but not as sunny as the previous weekend, when the route was checked out. This was the Richmond view then as leaves drifted earthwards in a gentle breeze.

There was time for a coffee break mid-morning at the cafe on Wimbledon Common, alongside the Windmill, which had just celebrated its bicentenary.

Then on to Richmond Park, past a pair of large stags with huge antlers, to view St Paul's Cathedral through a telescope, from King Henry's Mound. We were not impressed by the fact that a large building had been constructed right behind it, detracting from its status as a protected vista - but it was impressive, nonetheless.

Finally there was an opportunity for an early cup of tea at the charming Hollyhocks cafe, a real gem hidden on the hillside in Richmond, overlooking the Thames.
