Tower Bridge Tour

On Tuesday 11 April, the Master and 15 members and guests visited Tower Bridge for a guided tour.

Starting in the North tower, we visited the Tower Bridge Exhibition and viewed films, animations and interactive displays giving insights into how and why the Bridge came into existence. We then walked across the high-level Walkways and experienced the Bridge’s latest “wow” factor - walking across the glass floor, a unique viewpoint in the high-level Walkways, 42 metres above the River Thames.

From the walkways we had a stunning panoramic view of the city and were also able to take in the a display of the 40 bridges featured in the 'Great Bridges of the World'.

The final part of the visit was to see the original bridge lifting machinery in the Victorian Engine Rooms and then watch a short video showing the bascules being raised by one of our bridge lift drivers, recorded in the control cabin.

The tour was rounded off by the obligatory exit through the Gift Shop before supper at a local restaurant.
