WELCOME

Founded as a Guild in 1995 by some leading members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers became the 107th livery company of the City of London in 2005, and was granted a Royal Charter in 2009. Its members are all current or former tax practitioners, including Chartered Tax Advisers, accountants, lawyers and tax officials, and the Company complements the activities of the professional bodies involved in tax.

The Company organises a full programme of formal dinners and lunches, as well as a variety of informal social activities. The Company has established affiliations with the Armed Services. These comprise an affiliation with HMS Bangor, one of the Royal Navy’s Sandown Class minehunters; an affiliation with 101 Squadron, Royal Air Force, based at RAF Brize Norton; an affiliation with the Army Adjutant General's Corps; an affiliation with the City of London & North East Sector Army Cadet Force and additionally a similar link has been established with the Westminster St John Ambulance Cadet Unit - Links which are much valued by members.

The Company's primary aims are to:

Enhance the standing of the profession of tax adviser in the City of London

Support and fund charitable and benevolent causes

Support the Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation

Promote fellowship among tax advisers

The Company plays a full role in the City and is a member of the Financial Services Group of Livery Companies. Before each of the Lord Mayor’s overseas visits, the Company provides a tax briefing to assist discussions with overseas business people, officials and Government ministers through its Lord Mayor's Briefing Group.

The Tax Advisers' Benevolent Fund. (Registered Charity No. 1049658)

The Tax Advisers' Benevolent Fund provides assistance by way of information, support and grants to members and former members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and their dependants who are in need. It also provides grants to CIOT and ATT students who are unable to afford the fees payable and certain other costs necessary in order to sit the examinations.

Tax Advisers' Charitable Trust. (Registered Charity No. 1064392)

The Tax Advisers' Charitable Trust is a general charitable fund which supports a number of tax-related and City causes, including education and the preservation of tax history. It supports TaxAid (www.taxaid.org.uk) and Tax Help for Older People (www.taxvol.org.uk), the charities which provide help to those who need tax advice but cannot afford it. Its funds are also available for benevolent purposes.
